At Baxter’s Bootcamp, we firmly believe that a balanced training approach is the key to success for every dog. Balanced dog training teaches a dog desired behaviors using both reward-based techniques (dependent on every dog but can be things like treats, affection, ball, tug, frisbee, etc.) and aversive corrections. The purpose of the corrections is not to punish the dog, but rather to change the dog’s behavior. Corrections help to form clear communication and boundaries between each dog and handler. Rewards help to reinforce certain behaviors. Corrections will start to be introduced in the training process once a dog associates a behavior with a command. Just like we do with other human beings, we must hold dogs accountable and stay consistent in doing that to yield the best training results. Corrections will be administered on the main training tool we use called an E-collar. An E-collar is a wonderful training tool that uses muscle stim (just like a TENS unit humans use in physical therapy) to communicate with the dog. We use the mini educator model and it has 100 different intensity levels, so we can cater to any dog’s sensitivity and/or distraction level. You will learn all about the E-collar and how to use it with your pup in any of our training packages. We treat every training pup like our very own and can’t wait to help transform your furry friend!
